Fall Leadership Giving Back Event

The music played, the courtyard buzzed, and one by one, our leaders hit the runway at Olympic Village Inn in Tahoe-inspired outfits made entirely from secondhand finds.

There were cheers, laughter, and plenty of surprises.

Who knew a $30 thrift-store budget could lead to such creativity?

But beneath the fun and friendly competition was a bigger purpose. As part of Grand Pacific Resorts’ 2026 Leadership Meeting in Olympic Valley, leaders from across Grand Pacific Resorts participated in Threads for Tahoe, our 2026 Leadership Gives Back event benefiting Keep Tahoe Blue.

The challenge brought this year’s theme, Elevating Excellence, to life by showing how thoughtful resource use can create a meaningful impact.

A Different Kind of Leadership Challenge

This year’s theme encouraged us to look beyond great results and focus on how we lead, collaborate, and use resources thoughtfully. Threads for Tahoe brought that idea to life—literally.

Before the meeting, leaders were assigned to teams and tasked with creating a one-of-a-kind Tahoe-inspired outfit using secondhand clothing and accessories. Each participant had a $30 budget, but spending less meant more could be donated.

Grand Pacific Resorts committed an initial $2,500 to Keep Tahoe Blue, with all unspent budget dollars added to the donation. The challenge wasn’t just about creating standout looks—it was about being creative and resourceful.

The bigger message: What happens when we’re as thoughtful about what we don’t use as what we do?

Big Creativity, Small Budget

Armed with $30, teams hit thrift stores to craft their runway looks. Leaders discovered that unexpected finds—like a passed-along jacket or quirky accessory—could spark creativity. Every dollar saved added to the impact.

This challenge reflected one of our Grand Pacific Way Fundamentals, “Act Like It’s Yours,” which encourages us to manage resources wisely and eliminate unnecessary waste.

Threads for Tahoe made that mindset tangible. True excellence isn’t about how much we spend but how thoughtfully we use what we have.

Taking the Runway in Olympic Valley

On event day, Olympic Village Inn’s courtyard transformed into a runway. Teams showcased their outfits, sharing their inspirations and how much of their budget they returned.

Some looks were stylish. Others were wild. All reflected the creativity and teamwork behind them.

By the end of the challenge, our teams had collectively donated 68% of their allotted budgets, returning $1,292 in unspent funds to the cause. Combined with Grand Pacific Resorts’ guaranteed $2,500 donation, Threads for Tahoe contributed a grand total of $3,792 to Keep Tahoe Blue.

Giving Clothing—and Tahoe—a Second Chance

Threads for Tahoe was intentionally designed to highlight reuse and sustainability. Leaders had to work with what already existed, opening conversations about reducing waste and making thoughtful choices.

Lake Tahoe’s natural beauty made supporting Keep Tahoe Blue a perfect fit. The organization works to protect and preserve the health and scenic beauty of the Lake Tahoe Basin, aligning with our responsibility to care for the places we serve.

“We’ve been partnering with Grand Pacific Resorts in fun and creative ways for years. They are passionate about protecting the communities they serve and where their guests play. Partnerships like this ensure Tahoe remains a place people want to return to again and again. We’re profoundly grateful for their continued support,” said Hailey Hawkins, Community Partnership Manager at Keep Tahoe Blue.

Elevating Excellence Beyond the Meeting

Threads for Tahoe started with thrift-store finds and a $30 budget, but its message went far beyond the runway.

From shopping trips to final applause, the event showed the power of creativity, collaboration, and thoughtful decisions. It also reminded us that making an impact doesn’t always require more—it often starts with reimagining what we already have. At Grand Pacific Resorts, our purpose is to enrich lives by creating experiences worth sharing. Threads for Tahoe extended that mission to our Associates, communities, and destinations, showing that even small, thoughtful actions can create lasting and meaningful impact.
